Wedding Spotlight: Crystal and Lee

Crystal+Lee_1077

Crystal and Lee’s wedding reception! I imagine it’s like jumping into a big frothy pile of cotton candy.  (Wait until you see the cake!) All the lovely details from the bride are highlighted beautifully thanks to Ari Simphoukham’s wonderful photographs. Thanks so much to Ari for sharing their photographs.

From the Bride: Our ceremony was a traditional Catholic Wedding held at The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. Our reception was a tented garden reception with a soft-romantic style incorporating sprinkles of a travel theme to the tables and seating chart (places we’ve visited together), as well as lawn games, a hosted bar, a dessert buffet and a cigar bar to entertain our guests. Lee and I met while dancing for a Polynesian dance group – we were partnered up and dated for 10 years before getting engaged. We were cruising around the Caribbean when we got engaged – specifically in Barbados while doing a catamaran tour to snorkel with the sea turtles.Crystal+Lee_0668

Procession of the Bride – Canon in D by Pachelbel and Prelude from Te Deum by Charpentier
Recessional: Wedding March
First Dance: Spend My Life With You by Eric Benet and Tamia (sung by the cousin of the bride and sister-in-law of the groom)

Favorite Memory from Wedding Day: Lee (Ceremony) – watching the bride walk down the aisle, (Reception) – the first dance. Crystal (Ceremony) – seeing her father and fiance’s reactions as she walked down the aisle. Crystal (Reception) – seeing all of our family and friends hugging and smiling and laughing together all in one place

Any Advice to those who are Planning? Crystal –  Never lose sight of why you are getting married in the first place. Lee – Listen to your fiancé.

From Crystal:  I always envisioned having a tented garden wedding, which is why we chose your venue. I loved the market lights, the gazebo and the tent. The blank canvas was elegant in itself and left so much room to add our own special touches. We actually fell in love with the venue on our first visit and already knew it was “the one”! The pricing was more than reasonable and the quality of food and assistance from Rebecca and her staff were amazing as well.

We wish you many years of love and happiness in your marriage. Congratulations and best wishes, Crystal and Lee!

10 ways to Feature Herbs in Your Wedding

Fragrant, chic and symbolic, herbs are among the biggest new trends in wedding day florals.

Herb Wedding Ideas | Herb Bouquets | Bridal Musings Wedding Blog 23

Herbs can make the most lovely table decorations, wedding favors, cake decorations, or bouquet greenery.

Imagine the scent of lavender filling the room as it’s used as confetti, or on the chairs leading down the aisle, or the aroma of a rosemary greeting your guests as they take their seats for dinner.

And along with smelling heavenly, they look beautiful too. Nothing looks more chic and rustic than bundles of lavender dotted about, and sprigs of rosemary look so pretty around a naked wedding cake. They’re also longer lasting than your average greens, which makes them perfect for looking fresh into the wee hours of a wedding.

Check out these 10+ ideas for featuring herbs in your wedding.

Cobalt and Peach Wedding Inspiration

Looking for a color palette that is modern but still feminine? Look no further. You’re going to love this cobalt and  peach wedding inspiration. The richest shade of blue, cobalt is for those who want to make a statement.  It’s bold, attention-grabbing, and absolutely perfect for that bride who wants to turn heads.  Add pops of peach and classic white for a look that is softer and more subtle – the perfect combination of cosmopolitan and girly.  Imagine clean white linens, cobalt blue water goblets, Parisian-inspired china, and even fresh peaches decorating your tablescape.  You’ll have countless peach and white floral options too, which would look utterly amazing against striking cobalt blue bridesmaids dresses.  If you’d like a few more options, throw in navy, dusty cornflower blue, and even coral for a healthy dose of color.  Either way, a cobalt, peach, and white wedding color palette is sure to wow both pastel and jewel tone lovers alike! Wedding Spotlight: Shadelle and JR

ShadelleJR-476I’m pretty smitten with Shaddelle and Jr’s wedding, it’s everything one wants their wedding to be – fun, romantic and really personal.  All the lovely details from the groom are highlighted beautifully thanks to Tra Huynh’s editorial eye—all the shots below show just how lighthearted and warm the whole day was.

ShadelleJR-39

From the Groom: Shadelle and I initially met in middle school, through friends. Over the years, we were just acquaintances until the summer of 2009 when a spontaneous phone call to hang out in Sacramento lead to more.

I proposed on her 28th Birthday. Shadelle likes to call it her “Great 28”. I threw her a surprise birthday party and throughout the entire night, friends and family had suspicions that I was going to propose. I DENIED it all. In the middle of the festivities, I set up the projector screen and played a birthday video that included all of her friends and family wishing Shadelle happy birthday.

As the end of the video draws to a close and fades to black,  I thank everyone for coming out to celebrate her birthday.  Suddenly, you hear a iPhone ringtone playing through the speakers, and as I look around at people being confused, the video pulls back it’s focus on the screen and everyone starts to watch a facetime conversation between me and Shadelle’s Mom. Finally, I popped the question in front of our friends and family.

We dedicated our wedding to Shadelle’s grandparents, whose dying wish was to see her get married before they passed away. They meant the world to her. We took an engagement shoot that replicated a picture of her grandparents’ and used it as one of our guest frames for our guests to sign.
Shadelle made a bouquet charm of her favorite picture of her grandparents as a way to have them be there as she walked down the aisle, and wore her grandmother’s necklace as her “something old”.

From the groom: The colors of our wedding were an ombre of coral colors with highlights of gold. The style and look was just overall simple. We weren’t too particular with decorations because the venue was beautiful enough to carry our “look” of the wedding we wanted (especially in the evening). We just added some coral uplights to brighten up the tent in the evening.

Shadelle’s mom created the majority of the decorations especially the centerpieces and the gazebo. We couldn’t thank her enough for all the work she has done to make our day beautiful. Shadelle’s sister helped make some of the signs that we displayed.

Since we couldn’t decide on just one flavor, we decided to have his and her cupcakes which were Maple Bacon (HIS) and Banana Nut (HERS) which we ordered from Icing on the Cupcake. I wanted a nice cutting cake so we ordered a spice cake with cream cheese filling decorated with coral buttercream from Cake Castle Bakery. ShadelleJR-881

Our grand entrance was another one of our favorite moments of the day. The entrance included us walking out to WWE’s D’Generation X theme song with Tag Team Championship belts followed by a custom lyric rap we created with a help of our close friend and groomsman Gerrold, to Young Money’s – Every Girl. It’s “our” song and we had our own lyrics to it which described our relationship.ShadelleJR-933

One piece of  advice we would give any soon to be newlyweds is to not stress too much about the little details. For us, we liked our wedding details simple, but just enough to be effective. What really mattered to us was the atmosphere, chemistry and the flow of the wedding. Our friends and family are very important to us so we made sure to have time to be able to talk, dance and celebrate with them. Also, many of our married friends told us this piece of advice which is to pause and let the moments soak in for a bit because your day is going to go SUPER fast. We want to wish all future newlyweds the best of love and luck in their marriage. Always remember to cherish, respect and love each other and that you guys are now part of a bigger picture, you guys are a TEAM and compromise will go a long way in wedding planning and in your marriage!

Wishing you all the best, Shadelle + JR!

Five Ways to Use 2016’s Pantone Color of Year

For the first time in history, Pantone named two shades at their annual Color of the Year announcement.

screen-shot-2015-12-03-at-11-16-48-pmWhen Pantone, the color experts, announced their color of the year 2016 to be not one, but two colors, and those colors a pale pink Rose Quartz along with beautifully soft Serenity blue, we knew they were a match made for a wedding.

Last year’s very mature Marsala was lovely, but so difficult to use for a more casual affair. This time we’re over the moon that 2016 is all about freshness and happiness, perfect wedding emotions.  Use them together for a perfectly balanced union, or take either the pink or the blue and pair them with your own choice of greens, purples or shades of yellow and cerise. For an industrial wedding theme add in silver or copper, hot brights introduce more splash and sparkle for a festive affair.

To show you just how pretty this pairing is, we’ve taken this years Pantone shades and created a modern yet very romantic take on the traditional pastel palette…

Dresses

If you consider yourself a bold bride, opt for a blush pink or ice blue wedding dress. Colorful bridal gowns hit the scene a few years ago and they continue to be a hot trend.  Having a more traditional wedding vibe? Choose light airy fabrics in either Rose Quartz, Serenity, or both for the bridal party. Your bridesmaids will look stunning!

wedding_dress

Floral Arrangements

While blue flowers may be few and far between, there are a ton in the pink family. Opt for bouquets and centerpieces that are mostly pink but accented with a hint of blue. Or incorporate Serenity using non-floral elements, like ribbon. Thinks peonies, dahlias, garden roses, and hydrangeas. This palette is a florists dream!

floral2Tenth and Grace; One Wed

Menswear
Real mean wear light blue. Either of these shades can work well with a navy or khaki suit or gray tux. Go for it in a light blue suit, or look for ties and pocket squares that use Rose Quartz or Serenity. Complete the look with a coordinated boutonniere.

groomswear1Ben Yew; Paula O’Hara

Makeup
Keep it classic and in the Rose Quartz family with a soft, natural look. Rosy cheeks and a pink lip makes a classic look for the bride and bridal party. What better day is there to try a sparkly pink-and-gold manicure?

Makeup_1588-700x503Left: Pinterest; Right: Pinterest

Sweets
We bet Rose Quartz and Serenity taste as good as they look. From cakes to macarons, and every sweet in between, look for tasty treats in these two shades to bring Pantone’s Colors of the Year to your wedding’s final course.

cakejpgErica O’Brien Cake Design; Renee Sprink

As you can see with two colors at play this year, there are countless opportunities for pairings.
